The Nyenrode Business Universiteit , often abbreviated as Nyenrode or Nijenrode , is the oldest independent university of the Netherlands .

Nijenrode was founded in 1946 as the Nederlands Opleidings Instituut voor het Buitenland (NOIB). It was intended to serve as a university for “preparation for international business life”. Nijenrode was granted university status in 1982. The university is located in the city of Breukelen , between Amsterdam and Utrecht .

history

Nyenrode Business Universiteit was founded in 1946 by executives from global Dutch corporations, including Akzo , KLM , Philips , Shell and Unilever . The educational institution founded as the Nederlands Opleidings Instituut voor het Buitenland (NOIB, Dutch Educational Institute for Foreign Countries) was soon named after Nyenrode Castle from the 13th century. In 1982 the institute was recognized as a university (Universiteit Nyenrode) by the Dutch government. Ten years later, those responsible decided to forego the funding provided by the Dutch government and to convert the state university into a private university, since in the Netherlands only private universities were restricted to an internal selection of students.

Today the Nyenrode Business Universiteit consists of two schools, the Business School and the Nyenrode School of Accountancy and Controlling . The castle, which was named after it at the time, is located in the northeastern part of the university campus. Nyenrode enjoys an excellent international reputation in the areas of business and management research and business and management education. The university maintains close relationships with national and international corporate networks, a fact that is reflected in the international character of its student body. In addition to the educational programs for managers, executives and entrepreneurs, the Nyenrode Business Universiteit also offers an extensive training program with courses and in-house learning modules that are tailored to the needs of managers in the corporate sector. The Nyenrode Research & Innovation Institute includes a PhD School, where graduates can do a doctorate, and also supports independent academic studies and publications by the Nyenrode Faculty.

Academic degrees

The focus of the management programs is on the MBA and MSc courses. Offered as a full-time and part-time courses MBA programs include a two-week training module at the Northwestern University associated Kellogg School of Management near Chicago. The former dean of the Kellogg School of Management, Dipak Jain , teaches as a visiting professor in Nyenrode. Aside from the partnership with the Kellogg School of Management, Nyenrode Business Universiteit maintains close relationships with the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa, the Harvard Business School in the USA, the Vlerick School of Management in Belgium and the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland . In addition, Nyenrode Business Universiteit was a co-founder of the China Europe International Business School . Its internationally oriented MBA study program attracts students from all over the world. In contrast to other Dutch universities, an extensive selection process takes place in Nyenrode, in which the prospective students have to complete a Graduate Management Admissions test and a selection interview. Since the students enrolled in Nyenrode are of different nationalities, most of the courses are offered in English.
