Upper Ennstal (Styrian region)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Obere Ennstal , also Oberland , is a region in northwest Styria in the border area to Salzburg , with the main towns Schladming and Gröbming . It corresponds roughly to the Political Expositur Gröbming .

history

For centuries the area was characterized by agriculture and mining. Above all Schladming and Ramsau were strongholds of Protestantism and there was strong secret Protestantism in the entire region up to the patent of tolerance . Linguistically, the region differs through a strong influence of the Salzburg dialect.

Today most of the communities make up the Schladming – Dachstein holiday region . The municipalities also formed the LEADER region Bergregion Oberes Ennstal in 2007–2013 . For the new period, in which a higher population is required, the Styrian Salzkammergut municipalities ( Ausseerland – Salzkammergut ) will be merged as Ennstal – Ausseerland .
