history

Unterwaldhausen was first mentioned in a document as Walthusen in 1246 . In Unterwaldhausen and Oberwaldhausen ( superior Walthusen ) the Benedictine abbey owned Weingarten .

The parish church of All Saints in Unterwaldhausen was first mentioned in a tax register in 1275. In 1353 the parish was under the patronage of the Ravensburg patrician family Maienberg. In 1508 it was incorporated into Weingarten Monastery.

The jurisdiction over Unterwaldhausen and Oberwaldhausen was exercised by the Counts of Königsegg . In 1693 they ceded jurisdiction to the Weingarten monastery in exchange for the hamlet of Wolfertsreute. The possessions of the monastery were combined in the "Amt Unterwaldhausen".

In the course of secularization , the place came to the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1806 . Unterwaldhausen initially belonged to the Saulgau District Office (from 1934: Saulgau district ) before it was added to the Ravensburg district as part of the municipal reform on January 1, 1973.

Religions

The parish is the seat of the Catholic parish of All Saints, which belongs to the Saulgau deanery.

The evangelical Christians of the community belong to the parish Altshausen in the church district of Biberach.

politics

Municipal council

The municipal council includes eight voluntary citizens who were elected by majority vote in the local elections on June 7, 2009. There are two women among them.

mayor

On November 16, 2008, Josef Schill was re-elected as honorary mayor. With 100% of the valid votes cast, he was confirmed for a third term of office with no opposing candidate and no dissenting vote. The turnout was 72.5 percent. In November 2016, Schill was elected for his fourth term with 99.3% of the vote.

coat of arms

On August 22, 1980, the municipality was given a municipal coat of arms and a flag in the colors green and yellow.

Blazon : "In gold (yellow) growing out of a green three-mountain, a green linden branch bent heraldically to the left in the shape of an abbot's crook, from which five green linden leaves sprout".

The coat of arms combines features of the coat of arms of the Weingarten monastery (which shows a vine curved like an abbot's staff) and the seal of the Ravensburg patrician family Maigenberg (which shows linden leaves).
