1952 Summer Olympics / Water polo

A water polo tournament was held at the 1952 Summer Olympics in the Finnish capital Helsinki . The venue was the Helsingin uimastadion .

The tournament began with the first qualifying round, in which ten seeded against ten unset teams competed; Argentina had a bye. Then the five losers played in the second qualifying round for the remaining places in the preliminary round. The remaining 16 teams met in four preliminary round groups drawn by lots, with the two best teams moving into the semi-final round (results of the direct encounters were taken away). The procedure was repeated in the two semi-final groups. The two best teams then played in the final round for places 1 to 4, the worse teams for places 5 to 8.
