The mixed tennis doubles of the 2016 Summer Olympics took place from August 6th to 13th in the Centro Olímpico de Tênis .

Olympic champions from 2012 were Viktoria Asaranka and Max Mirny . However, Asaranka canceled her participation due to her pregnancy. Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jack Sock from the United States were the new Olympic champions .

A total of 16 pairs took part in this tournament. The mixed teams were selected by the ITF taking into account the combined positions in the single and double world rankings as of June 6, 2016. The teams consisted of players who had already qualified for the single or double competitions and were therefore on site. The duo Angelique Kerber and Jan-Lennard Struff , registered by the DTB , did not make it into the field of 16 due to the nomination criteria. Since Philipp Kohlschreiber and Dustin Brown were no longer available due to an injury, the DTB could not nominate a more promising pairing.
