Australia took part in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, USA, with 25 athletes who competed in five disciplines.

It was Australia's 16th participation in the Winter Olympics . With two gold medals won, Australia was in 19th place on the medal table . Steven Bradbury's gold medal on the short track was Australia's first ever gold medal at the Winter Olympics.

Flag bearer

Freestyle skier Adrian Costa wore the flag of Australia during the opening ceremony at Rice-Eccles Stadium , and at the closing ceremony it was carried by gold medalist Steven Bradbury.
