Outi Borgenström

Outi Päivikki Borgenström (married Borgenström-Anjala ; born January 24, 1956 in Tampere ) is a former Finnish orienteer . In 1978 she won the world title with the Finnish relay, in 1979 she was individual world champion.

Borgenström won her first world championship medal in 1974 in Viborg, Denmark . In the individual race she was third behind the Danish Mona Nørgaard and the Swede Kristin Cullman . In 1976 in Scotland she won the silver medal with the relay. At the Nordic Championships in Joensuu in 1977 , Borgenström won the individual title. 1978 Outi Borgenström, Marita Ruoho and Liisa Veijalainen were relay world champions. At the home world championships in her native Tampere in 1979, she won the long distance competition. After this success she was named Sportswoman of the Year in Finlandexcellent. In 1981 in Hungary she won another relay silver. She also won silver in the singles at the Nordic Championships in 1980 (behind Liisa Veijalainen) and 1982 (behind Eva Charlotte Tønnesen ).

Outi Borgenström and Ari Anjala's first child were born in the summer of 1984 . Ari Anjala was a multiple World Championship medalist with the Finnish orienteering relay. Borgenström continued her orienteering career afterwards, but could no longer make the connection to the world elite. In 1990 she won the Tiomila with the Tampereen Pyrintö team . Her son Topi Anjala is also a member of the national orienteering team.

She won the Finnish normal distance championship in 1976, 1978, 1981 and 1983, the long distance championship in 1981 and 1983. In 1983 she was also the Finnish night orienteering champion. During her career she ran for the clubs Hyvinkään Rasti , Kangasalan Kisa , Tampereen Pyrintö and Ikaalisten Nouseva Voima .
