Patrick Thoresen (born November 7, 1983 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian ice hockey player ( center ) who has been under contract with the Storhamar Dragons in the GET-league since 2018 . His brother Steffen is also a professional ice hockey player like his father Petter Thoresen .

Career

Patrick Thoresen began his career as an ice hockey player with the Storhamar Dragons , for which he made his debut in the GET-ligaen , the highest Norwegian league, in his 1999/2000 season and with whom he immediately became Norwegian champion in his rookie year . In his second season, the center increased to 45 scorer points, including 18 goals, in 40 games, after which he spent a year each in the Canadian junior league QMJHL with the Moncton Wildcats and Drakkar de Baie-Comeau . He was particularly convincing in Baie-Comeau and received the Frank J. Selke trophy as the fairest player in the league in 2003 when he was the league's best assists . For the 2003/04 season he returned to Europe, where he received a contract with Mörrum GoIS in HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division. There he recommended himself with 41 scorer points in 38 games for higher-class clubs and was signed shortly before the end of the season by Djurgårdens IF from the Elitserien , for which he was also on the ice in the following two years. He started the 2005/06 season at EC Red Bulls Salzburg in the Austrian Ice Hockey League , for which he scored four goals and seven assists in nine games in the playoffs.

For the 2006/07 season Thoresen moved to the Edmonton Oilers from the National Hockey League , where he was a regular player straight away. He was only the fifth Norwegian to be on the ice in the NHL. The attacker scored his first NHL goal on October 12, 2006 in the game against the San Jose Sharks . During his first season he also ran five times for the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League . The 2007/08 season spent the national player again with the Edmonton Oilers and in the AHL with the Springfield Falcons , for which he contributed 13 goals and 13 assists in 29 games. The season itself he ended in the NHL with the Philadelphia Flyers . In the 2008/09 season he ran for the HC Lugano in the Swiss National League A in. In his season with the highest points in the senior division up to then, he scored a total of 71 points in 55 games, including 23 goals, and was elected to the league's all-star team , among others . In the summer of 2009, the Russian top club Salawat Julajew Ufa became aware of him. In the 2009/10 season he was the best team in the Continental Hockey League with Salawat Yulayev Ufa in the main round , to which he contributed with a plus / minus balance of +45, which was the best in the league and failed with his team in the playoffs in the conference final at the eventual master Ak Bars Kazan . He also took part in the second KHL All-Star Game .

In the 2010/11 season Thoresen won the Gagarin Cup for the first time with Ufa . In the playoffs he was the best assists in the league and had the best plus / minus balance. He had also previously participated in the third KHL All-Star Game . In June 2011, the Norwegian signed a two-year contract with SKA Saint Petersburg . In 2015 he won the Gagarin Cup with the SKA .

From April 2015 Thoresen was again under contract with Djurgårdens IF from Svenska Hockeyligan , after the end of the 2015/16 season he moved to the Swiss National League A (NLA) to the ZSC Lions . After a year in Zurich, he returned to the home of his career, the Storhamar Dragons , before the 2017/18 season. A few months later, in November 2017, he was signed again by SKA Saint Petersburg.

In the summer of 2018 he returned to the Dragons again.

International

For Norway , Thoresen took part in the junior division of the U18 Junior B World Championships in 2000 and the U18 Junior World Championships in 2001 and the U20 Junior B World Championships in 2001 and 2002 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the B World Championships in 2004 and 2005 and at the A World Championships in 2006 , 2007 , 2009 , 2010 , 2012 , 2013 and 2015. He also competed for Norway at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics .
