history

Takaaki Kidani , founder of the multimedia group Bushiroad , started the franchise with the premise that voice actors could play their own musical instruments during live performances. Kidani came up with the idea for this concept in 2014 after attending a concert by The Idolmaster franchise in the Saitama Super Arena . Aimi's talent for singing and playing guitar also piqued his interest.

At a solo concert on February 28, 2015, Aimi announced that she would join a music group from the BanG Dream! Franchise as a singer and guitarist. Rimi Nishimoto and Ayasa Itō joined the project in April. On April 18, 2015, the trio gave their first concert under the title I Started a Band in Spring . The musicians played twelve songs, eleven of which were cover versions of popular anime songs, as well as Yes! Bang dream! his own piece, written by Noriyasu Agematsu , a member of the composer's collective Elements Garden , and released as the first single at the end of February 2016. During the concert, Aimi lost her voice, which was later picked up in the plot of the anime.

The group's name, Poppin'Party , was published in the Monthly Bushiroad ahead of the band's second concert. Until then, the project was called Instruments × Girls = Justice! known. Sae Ōtsuka was introduced as a guitarist at her concert in June 2015 at Shinjuku Loft. At their third concert in October, Ayaka Ōhashi, the fifth and final member, was presented to the audience. In their early days, the performances were influenced by the Japanese girl group Silent Siren , who were to play a concert in the MetLife Dome in 2019 and bring out a song in collaboration with No Girl No Cry . In 2014 Poppin'Party hosted character-related concerts .. During the year, the group achieved an enormous increase in popularity through their live performances, which meant that a concert in November was sold out shortly after the advance sales start in mid-October. In summer the band played on the Animelo Summer Live . This appearance caused an increase in the sales of her third single Hashiri Hajimeta Bakari no Kimi ni / Teardrops . This sold a little more than 11,000 times within the first week of sales, while the first two singles sold just 1,500 and 3,300 units respectively in the same period after their release. Hashiri Hajimeta Bakari no Kimi ni / Teardrops entered the Japanese singles chart at number ten in December 2016 and marks the first top ten single in Japan for an anime-related project before the anime was even aired on television.

The anime , in which the members of Poppin'Party play the main characters, started in Japan in 2017 and currently comprises three seasons, an OVA and a movie. Poppin'Party contributed several theme songs for the anime: The first season was Tokimeki Experience! and Kirakira da toka to hear Yume da toka ~ Sing Girls ~ in the opening and closing credits; in season two Kizuna Music ♪ and Jumpin ' ; in the third season Initial and Yume wo Uchinuku Shunkan ni! . A movie dealing with the band has since been announced for 2022.

The song Time Lapse , which was released as the seventh single on September 20, celebrated its live premiere at the concert . The single later sold more than 10,000 times within the first week of sales and reached number six on the Japanese single charts. Sanzigen , who produced the second season of the anime, developed a 30-second commercial as part of this collaboration. The group played other concerts in 2019, including the seventh franchise concert at Budōkan, one with the girl group Silent Siren and an appearance at the Japan Rock Festival in August.

The fifteenth single Initial reached number one in the Japanese singles charts for the first time in January after selling around 27,000 times within the first week of sales, making it the franchise's first number one single. The second album called Breakthrough! was originally due to be released on June 3, 2020. The publication was postponed to June 24th in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan. Breakthrough sold nearly 14,500 copies within the first three days of publication; at the end of the first week of sales, almost 21,000 units of the album were sold, which meant number three in the Oricon album charts. Members

  • Aimi (Kasumi Toyama, vocals and electric guitar , since 2015): Aimi is the first voice actress to join the BanG-Dream! -Project after she attracted Kidani's attention in 2014 through a concert that she gave as part of The- Idolmaster franchise. She joined Poppin'Party as the first band member in February 2015. During her time at high school, she played in a school band that she left after graduation. Together with Ami Maeshima she moderates the franchise internal variety show Bandori TV .
  • Sae Ōtsuka (Tae Hanazono, lead guitar , since 2015): Ōtsuka was integrated as the fourth member of Poppin'Party. Before that she was active as a street musician , which means she was able to gain experience in guitar playing.
  • Rimi Nishimoto (Rimi Ushigome, e-bass , since 2015): Nishimoto joined Poppin'Party when the group first appeared. When she joined the franchise she played piano and guitar on a professional level , but had little experience on electric bass. She originally went to a casting for a role in the Tantei Opera Milky Holmes project , but was selected by Kidani to be a member of Poppin'Party because at that point he realized that she "had something special about her."
  • Ayaka Ōhashi (Sāya Yamabuki, drums , since 2015): Ōhashi was the last member of Poppin'Party and had already gained experience on the drums before joining.
  • Ayasa Itō (Arisa Ishigaya, keyboard , since 2015): Itō joined Rimi Nishomoto at Poppin'Party at the group’s first appearance. In addition to the keyboard, she also plays the tambourine for the group. At the time of her entry into the project, she had the least musical experience. She had learned to play the piano in elementary school.

Poppin'Party within the BanG Dream! Franchise

In addition to performing live concerts, the members of the group perform the characters of the band in the anime television series. The band from Kasumi Toyama, who is looking for a special sound, the Star Beat , was included in the franchise . While their musical skills are not the best, they make up for it with their strong energy and connectedness. Your name should reflect your music. Before performing, the members complete the common ritual of hugging and saying their official cheer.

Novelist and mangaka Kō Nakamura was commissioned to work out the fictional biographies of all characters in the group. Some aspects of the fictional founding of Poppin'Party are based on Nakamura's experiences when he himself played in a student band at his high school , including the fact that the group was founded by classmates, that the guitarist finds his instrument in a pawn shop and the commonality that Both Poppin'Party in the anime and Nakamura's real band were rehearsing in a warehouse. Nakamura drew further inspiration from photos of the British band The Beatles , who played at Nippon Budōkan , and set this as the ultimate goal for Poppin 'Party; while the real band already appeared several times in Budōkan. The character design is based daringly on the voice actors to better express their musical skills.

BanG Dream! s first work, the manga BanG Dream! _Star Beat by Nakamura and Aya Ishida, contained numerous differences in character traits that were largely discarded in later works.
