history

The place was laid out as a clustered village around a village pond. The place was first mentioned in 1421 as "Bossenfelden". The place name is derived from an identical field name with which inferior ("bad") fields were designated. The town's feudal lord was the Würzburg monastery . In 1592 fiefs were the Nuremberg patricians von Holzschuher over eleven properties and the Bamberg patricians Zollner vom Brand . After they died out in the 18th century, the Counts of Schönborn acquired the fief. The high court exercised the Würzburg Centamt Schlüsselfeld . There were also properties that were directly subordinate to the Schlüsselfeld office.

As part of the community edict, Possenfelden was assigned to the Elsendorf tax district, formed in 1808 . In the same year the rural community Elsendorf was formed, to which the place belonged. 13 properties were subject to the voluntary jurisdiction of the Vestenbergsgreuth Patrimonial Court (until 1848).

On May 1, 1978, Possenfelden was incorporated into the town of Schlüsselfeld as part of the regional reform .
