The Midwest Region is one of the eight regions of the United States that sends participants to the Little League Baseball World Series , the largest youth baseball tournament. The Midwest region has been taking part in this tournament since 1957, back then under the name Central Region . When the field of participants doubled in 2001, the Central region was divided into the Great Lakes and Midwest regions.
