The Asia-Pacific and Middle East region is one of the eight international regions that send participants to the Little League Baseball World Series , the largest youth baseball tournament. The region has been taking part in this tournament since 1962, back then under the name Far East Region . When the field of participants doubled in 2001, the Far East region was divided into the Asia and Pacific regions. In 2007 the groups were reunited to form the Asia-Pacific group and Japan became a separate region. From 2013 Australia will be a separate region, the Middle East countries, with the exception of Israel and Turkey, will be assigned to the Middle East - Africa group to the Asia-Pacific group.
In April 1997, Taiwan's national organizers announced that they were not sending any more teams to the Little League World Series because they believed that the tournament was no longer compatible with national sports funding. Furthermore, they were no longer able to comply with the LLWS regulations. Only in 2003 was a team sent again.
