Qualification too Little League World Series 2018

The region of Europe and Africa is one of the eight international regions that send participants to the Little League Baseball World Series , the largest baseball tournament for youth. The region has been participating in this tournament since 1960. Until 2000, only European teams were organized in this group (see: Region Europe (1960–2000) ). After the number of participants doubled in 2001, two groups were formed, on the one hand the Europe, Middle East and Africa region , and on the other the Transatlantic region . In 2008 these two groups were reunited and the regions Europe and Middle East - Africa were formed. From 2013, Australia will form its own region in the Pacific region, but the Middle East - Africa region will be dissolved again and the part of Africa as well as Turkey and Israel assigned to Europe.

Europe, Middle East and Africa (2001-2007)

With the increase in the number of participants, two separate groups running in parallel were formed from 2001 onwards. In the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) group, the rule was that a maximum of three team members could be citizens of the USA, Canada or Japan. The transatlantic group was formed exactly the opposite, here at least 51% of the team members had to be from the USA, Canada or Japan. In 2008 these rules were repealed and the groups merged.

Since only European teams took part in the EMEA group apart from Kenya in 2001 and South Africa in 2003, it was still known colloquially as the Europe group.
