Rive-Reine Conference

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rive-Reine Conference is an annual meeting of around 50 influential personalities from politics, business and society in Switzerland. In addition to CEOs, Nestlé invites one or two Federal Councilors as well as the heads of the Federal Council parties, the churches and the trade unions. The conference has been held at the Hotel Rive-Reine in La Tour-de-Peilz , Nestlé's training center, since 1976 . The current organizer is the Chairman of the Néstle Board of Directors, Peter Brabeck-Letmathe . Before him, the former Federal Councilor Kaspar Villiger and Rainer E. Gut as board members of Nestlé were the hosts. The meetings became known through the book Greed for Power. Who really rules Switzerland. by SonntagsBlick correspondent Viktor Parma.

Protests against the conference took place for the first time on January 18, 2010, and Swiss television reported on the conference for the first time. The last meeting took place on January 17, 2011, and was reported on by French-speaking Swiss television . On January 16, 2012, the meeting wasn't a big press issue. Just 20 minutes, We Are Change and the weekly newspaper reported on the event. The expected meeting in 2013 was not mentioned in any press release, which does not rule out its existence. The next meeting is expected on January 13 or 20, 2014. The conference building was built in the 19th century for Auguste von Harrach , the second wife of the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. built and converted into a hotel after her death. The Nestlé Group bought it in 1969 and uses it as a training center.

criticism

The organization Public Eye on Davos criticizes the meetings because of the lack of transparency towards the public. The conference is similar to the Bilderberg conference , also a meeting behind closed doors and thus contrasts with the WEF, whose content is partially publicly accessible. National Councilor Oskar Freysinger submitted an interpellation on the subject in December 2011.
