Robert Maschke (* 1979 in Vienna ) is a German photographer from Cologne . He is best known for his artistic portrait photography of hip-hop musicians and comedians and as a commercial photographer .

Career

Robert Maschke was born in Vienna in 1979. He has been using the image processing program Adobe Photoshop since he was thirteen , which benefited him in the further course of his career. At first he worked as a fashion and textile designer before moving his focus to media design . A year later he bought his first digital SLR camera, the Canon EOS 300D . An initial “ gimmick ” quickly turned into a “ passion“Developed. At first he practiced with photographs of nature motifs and architecture. After switching to portrait photography, his pictures were first published in magazines and shortly afterwards commissioned by private customers. From then on, Maschke concentrated entirely on professional photography, giving the " post-processing " of his images an equally high priority.

In order to be able to process commercial orders in addition to his artistic work, Maschke made contact with advertising agencies early on. As an advertising photographer, he entered into collaborations with companies such as Sony and Adobe and was involved in advertising projects for Vorwerk , Henkel , E.ON , Bayer , Vilsa-Brunnen , effect and Salitos , among others . According to his own statement, he is serving “ two completely opposing market segments with very different visual languages. “While he has to orientate himself towards the agency's guidelines when working with companies and his technical skills are the focus, in portrait photography he tries to“ generate emotions, create projection surfaces and break the usual sound barriers. “In 2011 Maschke shot the cover motif for the album Ist das schön! by Hugo Egon Balder . He held another workshop at the photography and travel fair Photo + Adventure under the title Portraits - Low Light Extreme . As of 2016, Robert Maschke increasingly appeared as a photographer for the covers of various rap albums. In addition to other musicians such as the electro-pop duo Yello or the singer Lucy Diakovska , the illusionist Farid and boxer Felix Sturm , mainly comedians took photos . His motifs included Chris Tall , Jan Böhmermann , Nizar , Özcan Coşar , Sascha Korf , Maxi Gstettenbauer , Jacqueline Feldmann , Herr Schröder , Osan Yaran , Ingmar Stadelmann , Andreas Weber and Lena Liebkind.

Robert Maschke calls his style " MSCHKY-Style ". This is expressed “ in intense, somber portraits that, apart from the ideal world of glossy magazines, bring to light another side of the subject. “A good picture captures“ life in exactly that moment as emotionally as possible, but at the same time it has to give just enough freedom that it calls for contact with real life ”.
