Rock 'n' Roll Realschule is an unplugged album by the German punk rock band Die Ärzte . The single was the double A-side “Come back / Die Banana”. The name is a variation of the Ramones Rock 'n' Roll High School title .
background
On August 31, 2002, the doctors gave their first unplugged concert in the auditorium of the Albert Schweitzer High School in Hamburg . After Herbert Grönemeyer and the Fantastischen Vier , the doctors were the third German-speaking interpreter for whom an MTV Unplugged concert was held. The three musicians were accompanied by the school orchestra and choir as well as the percussionist Markus Paßlick . Additional instruments such as a singing saw , a sitar , xylophone , banjos and a bass were used for individual songs . Bela B. uses various objects such as chains and scrap metal to expand the drum kit.
In the roughly six-hour, concert-like recording work, the doctors played a potpourri from their entire repertoire, which at the time comprised around 300 songs. From the recordings, the doctors released the CD Rock 'n' Roll Realschule (about 70 minutes long) on November 4, 2002 , which was also released on double vinyl with an additional track. The DVD of the same name was released on December 6, 2002 (150 minutes with extensive bonus material, including the song "Perm vs. Minipli" in a version based on Black Metal with electric instruments and an appropriate outfit , as well as various video clips and test recordings for the unplugged concert) . One of the breaks was due to a technical defect in which the light and Farin's guitar failed. It lasted over ten minutes and was bridged with an improvised version of A Hole in the Bucket . Farin Urlaub then continued to play on Rod González's guitar.
Songs
As usual with the doctors, the lyrics of some songs have been changed compared to the studio versions. In Ignorama , for example, instead of " ... the Backstreet Boys dissolved " instead of the studio version , " ... Bro'Sis finally broke up ". This is most evident in the play Too Late , in which the rich protagonist loses his girlfriend to a poor rival, while in the original the situation is reversed.
With “Monsterparty” an older song is also included, which had never been played live before, but only hinted at in an acapella version on the 2001 reading tour .
The doctors also recorded an unplugged version of their "lullaby", which, due to the indexing of the song, remained unpublished for the time being and only appeared as a video track on the album Devil in 2005 .
There are three other songs on the single that cannot be found on the album: “Is that everything?” (Only on the vinyl version), “Summer, Palms, Sunshine” and “3-Day-Beard”.
