Rybitwy ( German  Ribittwen , 1938 to 1945 Ribitten ) is a small town in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . He belongs to the Gmina Pisz ( city ​​and rural community Johannisburg ) in the Powiat Piski ( Johannisburg district ).

Geographical location

Rybitwy is located one kilometer from the south bank of the Roschsee ( Jezioro Roś in Polish ) in the eastern Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , nine kilometers northeast of the district town of Pisz ( Johannisburg in German ).  

history

The after 1579 Ribitwy and until 1938 Ribittwen village called was in 1465 by the Teutonic Order as Freigut with ten fields to Kölmischem law established.

In 1874 the place became part of the newly established district of Groß Kessel , which existed until 1945.

On December 1, 1910 Ribittwen had 259 inhabitants, in 1933 there were 244. The renaming of places in East Prussia in 1938 also affected Ribittwen, which was now called "Ribitten". The population of the village was 197 in 1939.

As a result of the war, the village came to Poland in 1945 along with all of southern East Prussia and received the Polish form of the name “Rybitwy”. Today it is a place in the network of the city and rural community Pisz (Johannisburg) in the powiat Piski ( Johannisburg district ), until 1998 of the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then part of the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship .

Religions

Before 1945 Ribittwen was parish in the Evangelical Church of Johannisburg in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Roman Catholic Church of Johannisburg in the Diocese of Warmia .

Today, on the Catholic side, Rybitwy also belongs to Pisz , today it is located in the Diocese of Ełk of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland . The Protestant residents also stick to the district town, whose parish of the diocese of Masuria is assigned to the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

Rybitwy is located away from the traffic north of the Polish national road 58 and can be reached directly via an impassable land route. There is no train connection.
