The Saxon State Cup 2020/21 is the 31st edition of the Saxon State Cup (sponsor name: Wernesgrüner Sachsenpokal ) for men in amateur football. The national cup winner will qualify for the DFB Cup 2021/22 .

The defending champion is the record cup winner Chemnitzer FC . The competition opened on August 28, 2020 with the first round meeting between FV Gröditz and FSV Budissa Bautzen (1: 5).

Participating teams

All Saxon teams in the 3rd division 2020/21 , the Regionalliga Nordost 2020/21 , the Oberliga Nordost 2020/21 , the Sachsenliga 2020/21 , the Landesklasse Sachsen 2020/21, as well as the thirteen qualify for the Saxon State Cup 2020/21 District and city cup winners of the 2019/20 season. Second teams of higher class clubs are excluded from participation.

If there are special qualifications in the preseason due to the pandemic-related restrictions in match operations, this will be noted in footnotes. Basically it should be noted that the championship game operation, apart from the 3rd division, was canceled and that as a result there were no relegated players, only promoted players. This fact is also the reason for the record number of 109 qualified teams (one qualified team, however, did not participate).

Due to the high number of participants, the first main round was preceded this season by a round of elimination, in which 28 teams determined by lot (four district cup qualifiers and 24 teams qualified via the Sachsenliga and the state class) in a knockout round for a place in the first main round had to play to reduce the number of participants to 94. The teams that were eliminated in this round and thus could not take part in the actual cup competition despite sporting qualifications are shown in italics in the following table .

1 The SG Neukirchen / Erzgebirge qualified as vice-cup winner because the city cup winner SV Eiche Reichenbrand was already qualified as a climber in the state class.
2The Leipzig City Cup was canceled after the round of 16. In accordance with the implementation regulations, the team placed highest in the championship game of the city association was given the right to start the Saxony Cup. This would initially have been the LSV Südwest (1st place in the city league), which, however, has already qualified for the competition as a climber to the state class; BSG Chemie Leipzig II (2nd place) is not eligible to participate as a second representative of a higher-class team. Thus the right to start fell to third placed SV Panitzsch / Borsdorf.
3 The LSV 61 Tauscha qualified as the vice cup winner because the district cup winner BSG Stahl Riesa II is not allowed to start.
4th SV Wacker Auerswalde qualified as vice-cup winner because district cup winner SV Fortuna Langenau was already qualified as a promoter in the national class.
5 The FSV Blau-Wermsdorf is qualified regardless of the outcome of the still outstanding final in the district cup North Saxony, as the final opponent SC Hartenfels Torgau 04 is already qualified as a promoter in the state class.
6th The SV Aufbau Kodersdorf qualified as the vice cup winner because the district cup winner VfB Zittau was already qualified as a promoter in the state class.

The Saxon State Cup will be played in knockout mode, in the event of a tie after 90 minutes, extra time and penalty shoot-outs will follow. The pairings are drawn before each round. The team in the lower class always has home rights, otherwise the order of the drawing at the time of the draw decides (the team with home rights can, however, waive home rights in favor of the other team). In the 1st and 2nd main round, the teams qualified via the district cups cannot play against each other. The home right in the final will be drawn separately in the event of a pairing of two equal-class teams.

The qualified teams enter the competition in stages, depending on their league membership: In the first main round, only the teams qualified via the Sachsenliga, the state class and the district cups play. The top division teams are set for the 2nd main round, the third and regional leagues for the 3rd main round.
