The first season of the German crime series SOKO Leipzig celebrated its premiere on January 31, 2001 on the ZDF broadcaster . The finale was broadcast on April 18, 2001.

Two robbers attack the Dahm jewelry store in Leipzig. When they want to flee, their car is parked and they have to switch to the tram. There they meet Chief Detective Trautzscke, who is on the way to his daughter and soon becomes skeptical about the behavior of the two men.

During a major fire during restoration work, the daughter of Konrad Paulus, the investor, dies. The unpopular student Joschi Meindl is found dead. If it initially looks like an accident, the autopsy confirms the suspicion of the murder. The investigators have to investigate in the boarding school of the boys' choir, but then the SOKO comes across a plot of blackmail, competition and jealousy. It also turns out that Joschi was the victim of a mix-up. Actually, the perpetrator was targeting model student Fabian Pirck and now his life is in danger.
