The fourth season of the German crime series SOKO Leipzig celebrated its premiere on 17 October 2003 on the station ZDF . The final was broadcast on April 2, 2004.

Detective Inspector Alvarez is on his way to a meeting with Detective Inspector Maybach when he notices two burglars escaping from a factory and follows them. But the two lure the investigator into a trap. He manages to arrest one of the two, but the other burglar escapes after an exchange of fire and locks Alvarez and his accomplices in a bunker. When the team is called into the factory to commit a robbery, they notice their colleague's car and suspect that he is in danger. A common struggle for life and death begins for the commissioner and the arrested criminal.

The children skip school the next day to investigate. Meanwhile, the body of real estate agent Herbert Fenselau is found in the forest. The SOKO investigates, but the little detectives get ahead of them and are in great danger.

Art historian Guido Wichnarz is found slain in the crypt of the church by Pastor Lubig. A suspect is found quickly, but the interrogation escalates and community member Jochen Carstens takes Chief Detective Zimmermann hostage. He claims that the pastor is involved in an art forgery scandal and gives the SOKO an ultimatum. But chief detective Trautzschke brings the special task force into position.

The public prosecutor's office initiates an investigation against the SOKO investigator. Meanwhile, his colleagues are busy with a robbery. The jeweler wife Jutta Klein was shot on the way to the bank. When Detective Superintendent Alvarez finds a connection between the current case and the coffee roastery, the case seems logical.

The team tries to locate his boss and finds out that he is in the hands of the escaped murderer Jürgen Tomczek. Meanwhile, Trautzschke tries to explain the situation to Tomczek's autistic brother, Bernhard.
