The eighth season of the German crime series SOKO Leipzig celebrated its premiere on October 3, 2008 on the ZDF broadcaster . The final was broadcast on March 13, 2009.
The episodes of the season were first broadcast on the Friday 9:15 pm slot.
As in the fifth season, two full- length episodes (90 minutes instead of the usual 45 minutes of an episode) were produced with Istanbul Connection and Lost in Africa . In both episodes, the SOKO team investigates outside the German territory. While the Turkish city of Istanbul is set next to Leipzig in the episode Istanbul Connection , in the episode Lost in Africa , Namibia is determined.

Chief Detective Ina Zimmermann and her new friend Faruq Arat attend a wedding in Leipzig at which the groom Erdogan Cimsir and his bride are shot. The commissioner pursues the perpetrators and is shot. Her coworkers start the investigation and come across some mysterious things that her coworker's friend also seems to be involved in. When Ina Zimmermann learns about the suspects her colleagues have told her boyfriend, she is horrified and accompanies him on a business trip to the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul. She is considering starting a new life in Turkey with him and his family. Meanwhile, the investigation in Leipzig continues, but the SOKO is asked by BND Major Olaf Jordan to stop the investigation. The team decides to continue investigating and comes up with a dark secret that puts their colleague in danger. The investigators Kriminalhauptkommissar Trautzschke, Kriminaloberkommissar Maybach and Kriminalkommissar Grimm travel to Istanbul to save their colleague and find out that the Federal Intelligence Service also seems to be playing a dirty game.

Emanuela, the vacation acquaintance of Chief Detective Maybach from the Dominican Republic, is in Leipzig at his door and asks him for help. When a judge, a lawyer and Chief Detective Trautzschke were kidnapped in Leipzig, the SOKO team, led by Chief Detective Jan Maybach, came across an old case. Natalie Schneider was murdered 15 years ago, but the perpetrator was acquitted at the time because of a lack of evidence and can now not be convicted, as he would have to confess to the act according to the current legal situation. Since Chief Detective Trautzschke headed the investigation at the time, he now seems to have to appear as a witness in the trial staged by the father of the dead.
