The Sabandía district is located in the Arequipa Province of Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was founded on April 22, 1822. It has an area of 36.63 km². At the 2017 census, 4,368 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 2792, in 2007 it was 3699. The district administration is located in the small town of Sabandía, 2390 m high . Sabandía is located on the southeastern edge of the metropolitan area of the provincial and regional capital Arequipa, just under 8 km from the city center.
Geographical location
The Sabandía district is centrally located in the Arequipa province. The Río Socabaya flows west along the northern district boundary. The Sabandía district is located at the foot of the western foothills of the 5665 m high volcano Picchu Picchu, 26 km to the east .
The Sabandía district is bordered to the north by the districts José Luis Bustamante y Rivero , Paucarpata and Chiguata , the east and the south by the district Characato and the west by the District Socabaya .
