State Chess League A 1998/99
The 1998-99 season was the 24th season of the Austrian chess State League A . SK Loosdorf and SK Kufstein had risen from the State League B.
While Loosdorf achieved relegation and renamed itself after the season in SV NÖ Melk-Wachau , SK Kufstein had to relegate. With the SK Absam , a second club from Tyrol was affected by relegation.
The defending champion SK Merkur Graz won the fourth title in a row with an 11.5 point lead.

The competitions took place from November 13th to 15th, 1998 in Gleisdorf , December 12th and 13th, 1998 in Absam , January 15th to 17th, 1999 in Frohnleiten and March 12th to 14th, 1999 in Dornbirn .

Qualifying tournament for the State League A 1999/2000
The qualifying tournament for the State League A took place in Vienna from April 9th to 11th . The participants were the 1. SSK Mozart Salzburg (winner of the State League B middle), SK Austria Wien - Husek (winner of the State League B East), Raika Zell / Zillertal (winner of the State League B West) and Tram Graz as the winner of the State League B South. Zell / Zillertal and Salzburg took the first two places and were promoted to the State League A.
