Senftenschlössle Castle

The Senftenschlössle Castle , also called Senftsschlösschen , is a small castle founded on a presumed former moated castle in Hohenloher Straße 46 in Untermünkheim in the Schwäbisch Hall district in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The moated castle built by the Lords of Münkheim was first mentioned in 1361. The quarry stone structure of the Senftenschlössle with the monolithically carved slotted windows, however, point to a previous building from a much older age. In this context, the chronicle mentions a castle "which the Veldner and then the Senften owned since 1361, in the middle of our village".

1515, the water castle for the city nobles was Haller Councilor Melchior Senft to Sulburg expanded as a manor house to a tower-like castle, also known as Water House to Untermünkheim.

The building later came to the Untermünkheim community, where it was looked after by the “Interest Group for the Renovation of Historic Buildings” and, after a long period of inactivity, found a new owner who wanted to set up a cyclist's hotel here. During the renovation, the floor plan remained largely unchanged and interventions in the historical building fabric could be limited to the bare minimum. In mid-2004 the roof was re-covered and the facade renovated. The restoration work, which also affected the paintings, was completed in October 2005. The German Foundation for Monument Protection has funded the restoration of the wall and ceiling paintings as well as the repair of windows. The Dobelbach , which is now dormant over a longer distance, bounded the castle grounds, which were surrounded by a high wall and could only be reached via two small stone arch bridges , until the beginning of the 20th century.

The building appears as a rural aristocratic residence consisting of a late Gothic three-storey stone house made of quarry stone with a medieval half-timbered top and a high hip roof .
