The Suhlburg , also called Sulburg , is an abandoned hilltop castle at 322.4 m above sea level. NHN on a left spur above the lower Schmiedbachtal near the hamlet of Suhlburg in the municipality of Untermünkheim in the Schwäbisch Hall district in Baden-Württemberg .
history
The castle was probably built at the end of the 14th century by a councilor and members of a leading patrician dynasty from Schwäbisch Hall called Sulmeister , mentioned in 1430, and remained in the possession of his knightly aristocratic descendants, who named themselves after the castle Senft von Sulburg . These were enrolled in the knightly canton of Odenwald of the Franconian knight circle and through the acquisition of Matzenbach in 1524, also in the canton Kocher with the Swabian knight circle .
The plant burned down in 1534 and an attempted reconstruction in 1622 failed. Only remains of the foundations and moats remain from the former castle complex, where there is now a residential building.
