The Scottish League Challenge Cup was played for the 8th time in 1997/98 . The Scottish football competition, officially known as Challenge Cup was held, started on August 9 in 1997 and ended with the final on November 2, 1997 at Fir Park by Motherwell . The defending champion FC Stranraer was eliminated from the competition in this year's quarter-finals against eventual winner Falkirk . FC Falkirk won the final against Queen of the South with a goal from David Hagen 1-0. Due to the success, the club was able to catch up with Hamilton Academical as the record winner of the tournament. The clubs of the Scottish Football League took part in the competition.
