The Scottish League Challenge Cup was played for the 10th time in 2000/01 . The Scottish football competition, officially held as Bell’s Challenge Cup , began on August 15, 2000 and ended with the final on November 19, 2000 at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld . The defending champions Alloa Athletic FC lost in the first round against last year's final opponent Inverness Caledonian Thistle . This year Airdrieonians FC won the competition against FC Livingston on penalties and won the Challenge Cup for the second time since 1994/95 . The clubs of the Scottish Football League took part in the competition.
