Sound of Silver is the second studio album by the US band project LCD Soundsystem . It was released on March 12, 2007 on the labels DFA Records , Capitol Records and EMI Records .

background

Frontman, singer and producer James Murphy played most of the instruments himself, but was supported by his band members Tyler Pope, Nancy Whang and Patrick Mahoney and several studio musicians . On Sound of Silver , Murphy combines electronica and rock with elements from New Wave , Dance , Punk , Post-Disco , Synth Pop , Funk and Krautrock . The song All My Friends is influenced by Joy Division . Get Innocuous! contains a sample from Die Roboter (1978) by Kraftwerk .

The album was recorded in 2006 at DFA Studios in New York City and Long View Farm in North Brookfield , Massachusetts . Long View Farm is a farm with a recording studio , where musicians like the Rolling Stones , Aerosmith and Stevie Wonder have played. Murphy covered the entire recording room with aluminum foil , which was a possible inspiration for the album title Sound of Silver .

The album is dedicated to the psychotherapist Dr. Dedicated to George Kamen (1942–2006).

Someone Great was already part of the EP 45:33 (2006), which Murphy produced for Nike .

The song Get Innocuous! can be heard in the TV commercial for the video game Grand Theft Auto IV and in its soundtrack.

John Cale and the rock band Franz Ferdinand recorded cover versions of All My Friends in 2007 .

The melancholy New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down was the last piece that LCD sound system played at the farewell concert on April 2, 2011 in Madison Square Garden .
