Stierva ( German and officially Stürvis until 1943 ) is a village in the Swiss canton of Graubünden in the municipality of Albula / Alvra , which belongs to the Alvaschein district in the Albula district.

Until December 31, 2014, Stierva was an independent political municipality . On January 1, 2015, it merged with the communities of Alvaneu , Alvaschein , Brienz / Brinzauls , Mon , Surava and Tiefencastel to form the new community of Albula / Alvra .

The village of Stierva is a clustered village high above the left side of the Albula on the eastern slopes of a mountain range, the highest mountains of which are the Curvér Pintg da Taspegn (2731 m) and the Muttner Horn (2401 m). The former municipal boundary forms the Albula in the valley below. In addition to the village, the former municipality also includes the hamlet of Bargung (1540 m) and various farms. Of the entire former municipal area of ​​1054 ha, 444 ha are covered by forest and wood and 71 ha are mountain. Of the 520 hectares of land that can be used for agriculture, 428 hectares are alpine pastures. The remaining 19 hectares of the community area are settlement areas.

The only official language of the former municipality is Romansh. The population speaks the idiom Surmeir . In 1900 all of the 150 residents spoke Romansh. In 1970, 96% said Romansh was their mother tongue. Since then, the proportion of German speakers has grown massively.
