description

The hall church has a drawn-in, polygonally closed, long choir and in the west the transverse rectangular church tower set in the nave , which is of Romanesque origin. According to tradition, construction began in 1496 and, according to the inscription on the top of the choir, completed in 1505. After a fire in 1679 it was gradually rebuilt until 1715 according to an inscription with the support of Duke Johann Ernst III. restored and refurbished by Saxe-Weimar and his wife. There are Gothic windows without tracery on the choir polygon and on the south side of the nave . Their smooth or profiled walls suggest a different period of origin. In the south there is a portal from the period of construction , otherwise there are only younger window and door openings. On the north side are the late medieval sacristy and two modern stairs to the galleries . Above the sacristy there is a small vestibule to the gallery, the walls of which are decorated with painted arcades . The tower was covered with a hipped roof in the 17th or 18th century , from which an octagonal tower with the clock tower rises. On top of it sits a hood , crowned by an open lantern in which the bell is located. The first floor of the tower is opened inwards by two arches .

In the interior, the three-sided, two-storey galleries stand on continuous supports that also support the wooden barrel vault spanning the central space . At the top there are three paintings by Christian Wilhelm Ernst Dietrich with the fall of Sodom and Gomorra , the baptism of Jesus and the Last Judgment . To the side of it are portrait paintings of the apostles by the same painter as well as inscriptions that recall historical and contemporary events and the ceiling painting from 1714. The church furnishings of the choir are from the late 17th century. The large Altarretabel has superposed, popular painting of the supper , the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ , about a conversation narrowness of auricular denoted by 1684. The main image, a crucifixion, is framed by two pairs of columns and two carved figurines that Moses and Johannes represent the Baptist . The wooden eight-sided baptismal font is made of cartilage and cartouches with inscriptions, marked 1684. The pulpit is on the south side of the choir , according to the inscription on the pulpit staircase 1687 by Johann Ernst III. donated. The carvings on the pulpit show Christ and the evangelists and pilasters with herms . On the sounding board are Christian allegories represented. The sides of the pews are painted with scenes from the Bible. Several epitaphs from the 18th century can be found inside and on the outside wall of the church.

The organ with 20 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built by Adam Eifert in 1880 .
