history

Steins was first mentioned in 1303 as Stens . The name of the place has a Slavic origin and comes from "Sden" or "Stan". The current spelling has been documented since 1640. Regarding the manorial rule , Steins belonged proportionally to the manors Schwand , Geilsdorf and as an official village to the office of Plauen . In terms of church, Steins has always been part of Thossen . Steins belonged to the Electoral Saxon and Royal Saxon Office of Plauen until 1856 . In 1856 the place was affiliated with the Plauen court office and in 1875 with the Plauen administration .

On July 1, 1950, the hamlet of Steins was incorporated into Schwand . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the community of Schwand and Steins became part of the Plauen-Land district in the Chemnitz district (renamed Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Plauen from 1990 onwards. On January 1, 1994, the municipality of Schwand merged with six other municipalities to form the municipality of Burgstein , which got its name from the Burgstein mountain with its two church ruins. This belonged to the Vogtlandkreis since 1996. Since the incorporation of the municipality of Burgstein into the larger municipality of Weischlitz, Schwand and Steins have been part of Weischlitz since January 1, 2011. On March 1, 2011, the hamlet of Steins was deleted as an official district of Weischlitz.
