history

Reuth manor around 1859

The square village Reuth was first mentioned in 1418 as to the Rewte . The place name is derived from "cleared" and indicates the origin of the place. A chapel already existed before 1250 in the forest at Reuth , which was replaced around 1250 by a fortified church that existed until 1869 . The current church dates from 1869. The manorial rule over the place was at the Reuth manor , first mentioned in 1583 , which had emerged from a ring wall. The lords of Wolffersdorff were named as owners of the manor around 1411 , followed by the lords of Watzdorf . In 1674 Hans Georg II. Von Schönfels , war commissioner from the Electoral Saxony (1635–1695) bought the Reuth manor from the bankruptcy of von Watzdorf's heirs. It remained in the family's possession for 188 years until Friedrich Ernst von Schönfels (1796–1878) sold it in 1862 for 78,500 thalers.

Until 1856, Reuth belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Plauen . In 1856 the place was affiliated with the Plauen court office and in 1875 with the Plauen administration . Until the 20th century, Reuth also included the Saxon part of stilts , which protruded into the Russian and Thuringian part in several elongated parcels . In 1928 there was an exchange of territory and a border adjustment between the Free State of Saxony and the State of Thuringia. As a result, the parcels of Saxon stilts belonging to Reuth were completely ceded to Thuringia and combined with the Thuringian stilts share.

As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the municipality of Reuth came to the Plauen-Land district in the Chemnitz district in 1952 (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ). The incorporation of Reinhardtswalde (January 1, 1957) was followed by Schönlind (January 1, 1972) and Thossen and Tobertitz (both January 1, 1974). From 1990 the municipality of Reuth belonged to the Saxon district of Plauen, which was added to the Vogtlandkreis in 1996. The Stelzenfestspiele near Reuth in the nearby Thuringian village of Stelzen , which has been held since 1993, are named after the village of Reuth. Dehles and Misslareuth was incorporated on March 1, 1994. In 1996 the manor of the Reuth manor was demolished.

On January 1, 2017, the Reuth community was incorporated into the Weischlitz community, with which it had previously formed the Weischlitz administrative community .
