Steve Ihnat
Steve Ihnat (born August 7, 1934 in Jastrabie , Czechoslovakia , now Slovakia , † May 12, 1972 in Cannes , France ) was a Canadian actor , screenwriter and director .
life and work
Steve Ihnat was born in Czechoslovakia in 1934 . A few days before the country was broken up by Nazi Germany in March 1939, his family left the country and settled in Lynden , Ontario . Steve Ihnat aspired to become an actor from an early age. In 1958 he left Canada and went to Los Angeles . There he graduated from the Pasadena Playhouse . He then served in the Army for two years , although he never had US citizenship . He was stationed in South Korea .
Steve Ihnat had appeared in Los Angeles theaters since 1958, where he also played leading roles. He has also had guest roles in television series since then, such as 1958 in Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer or 1959 in Patrol Car 2150 . He's later appeared in shows like The People at Shiloh Ranch , 77 Sunset Strip , On the Run , A Thousand Miles of Dust , Perry Mason , The Smoking Gun , Bonanza , The Charming Jeannie , The Boss , Cobra, Take Over , Mannix , Your Appearance, Al Mundy , The Name of the Game , The Bold Ones: The Lawyers , Dr. med. See Marcus Welby or aka Smith and Jones . His appearance as the officer Philip Minns in The Outer Limits and above all as Garth in the episode Wen the Gods Destroy from the series Starship Enterprise are highlighted .
His film career also began in 1958. Initially, however, there were small films like Dragstrip Riot , Date Bait , Strike Me Deadly or Passion Street, USA , all starring his friend and roommate Gary Clarke . Already in Strike Me Deadly he played the villain , a role that he often had because he knew how to create complex characters like this. He was also one of the scriptwriters for Strike Me Deadly . In addition to small roles in A man is hunted and Derek Flint - he was tough as flintstone , he was seen in supporting roles in films such as Countdown: Start to the Moon , The Five Outlaws or Death Comes on Quiet, and also in Just 72 Hours As the wanted murderer Barney Benesch. In 1970 the film Do Not Throw Cushions Into the Ring was made . Steve Ihnat was not only the leading actor, but also a screenwriter, director, producer and film editor. The main female role was played by his wife. His stepdaughter also made an appearance. Steve Ihnat also wrote the script and directed the film His Last Ride with James Coburn . This film premiered a few days after Steve Ihnat's death.
At the 1972 Cannes Film Festival , Steve Ihnat died unexpectedly of a heart attack . He was buried in the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles .
Steve Ihnat was married to actress Sally Carter (also known as Marya Carter). With her he had a son.
