action

Kara Zor-El lives in the city of Argo City on the planet Krypton. Her mentor Zaltar allows her to play with the omegahedron, the city's source of power. The omegahedron escapes through an accident and lands on earth. Argo City is threatened with extinction. Kara feels guilty and therefore follows the crystal to earth.

Kara quickly discovers that she has supernatural powers on earth and appears there as a supergirl, based on her cousin Kal-El. To hide her extraterrestrial origins, she transforms into the dark-haired school girl Linda Lee, the cousin of Clark Kent. Meanwhile, the unsuccessful witch Selena has found the omegahedron and uses it for her evil purposes. She can do very strong, bad magic with it. Kara begins the fight against her, but initially loses when she tries to save Ethan, who is blinded with love spells. The witcher Nigel, Linda's friend Lucy Lane (sister of Lois Lane ) and the photographer Jimmy Olsen also fall into Selena's clutches. The witch succeeds in banishing Kara to the Phantom Zone , where she meets her old mentor Zaltar. The two manage to escape, but Zaltar dies in the process.

Back again, a fight between Selena and Supergirl begins, in which Selena conjures up a demon shadow, but which eventually overwhelms herself and her assistant Bianca and makes them disappear.

Ethan has realized that Linda is really Supergirl and promises never to forget her and to keep her true identity to herself. Kara then flies back to Argo City and reaches it with the omegahedron just in time before the city runs out of energy.

Reviews

Roger Ebert criticized the Chicago Sun-Times for not taking itself seriously. It is a " shame " because a female superhero would be trendy and Helen Slater had the charisma necessary for this role.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was a “ viscous infusion of the comic strip series without any beginnings of originality and wit ” and offered “ flat entertainment with standard ghost train effects ”.
