Suworowka ( Russian Суворовка , German Weedern ) is a place in the Russian Kaliningrad Oblast (region Königsberg (Prussia) ) and belongs to Gawrilowskoje selskoje posselenije (Town Gawrilowo ( Gawaiten , 1938-1946 Herzogsrode )) in Ozyorsky District (District Darkehmen , 1938- 1946 Angerapp ).

Geographical location

Suworowka is located on the eastern bank of the Angerapp (Russian: Angrapa) and can be reached from Uschakowo ( Ströpken ) or from Ryazanskoje ( Hallwischken , 1938–1946 Hallweg ). Both places are on the road that connects the district capital Osjorsk ( Darkehmen , 1938–1946 Angerapp ) with Gawrilowo ( Gawaiten , 1938–1946 Herzogsrode ) and the Russian-Polish border crossing Gussew / Gołdap ( Gumbinnen / Goldap , on the former German Reichsstrasse 132 ) connects. There is no rail connection.

history

The former Gutsdorf Weedern had 145 inhabitants in 1818, the number of which rose to 209 by 1863. The manor house was built in the 19th century and was built in neo-Gothic style and redesigned in neo-baroque style after the First World War .

On May 6, 1874, Weedern was named after an administrative district comprising 13 manor districts and rural communities , which until 1945 belonged to the Darkehmen district (1939–1945 Angerapp district ) in the Gumbinnen district of the Prussian province of East Prussia . In 1910 188 people lived in Weedern.

On October 17, 1928, Weedern lost its independence and was incorporated into the rural community Hallwischken (1938–1946 Hallweg , since 1946: Ryazanskoje). In 1945 the population of Weedern left their village on a trek led by the then landowner Anna von Zitzewitz as the front was approaching . The estate last comprised 1625 hectares, of which 70% arable land, 20% pastures and 2% forest.

After the Second World War , the north of East Prussia was placed under Soviet administration and Weedern was renamed " Suworowka " in 1946 . The manor house and the farm buildings survived the war relatively well, so that the manor house could be used as a school. By 2009, Suworowka was incorporated into the Bagrationowski soviet (Dorfsovjet Bagrationowo ( Wikischken , 1938-1946 Wiecken )). Since then, the place now called "settlement" (possjolok) has been part of the Gavrilowskoje selskoje posselenije (rural community Gavrilowo) in Osyorsk district in the Russian oblast of Kaliningrad .

Weedern District

From 1874 to 1945 the Weedern district existed, which was initially formed by 13 rural communities or manor districts:

church

The almost exclusively Protestant population of Weedern before 1945 was parish in the Darkehmen parish (1938–1946 Angerapp , since 1946 Osjorsk). It belonged to the church district Darkehmen in the church province East Prussia of the church of the Old Prussian Union . The last German clergy were Pastors Johannes Gemmel and Helmut Passauer .

Church life officially did not take place during the time of the Soviet Union . In the 1990s, new Protestant congregations formed in the Kaliningrad Oblast, of which Kadymka ( Eszerningken , 1936–1938 Escherningken , 1938–1946 Eschingen ) is closest to Suworowka. It is affiliated with the Kaliningrad provost of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia (ELKER). The responsible pastors are those of the Salzburg Church in Gussew ( Gumbinnen ).

Weedern stud

An important private stud was established in Weedern around 1800 and is still in operation today. Alexander von Neumann from Szirgupönen (1936–1938 Schirgupönen , 1938–1946 Amtshagen , from 1946: Dalneje, no longer existent) bought Gut Weedern in 1832 as part of his property. By inheritance, the estate came to Eberhard von Zitzewitz from Muttrin in Pomerania, who made the horse breeding business famous at home and abroad. From 1923 until his death in 1934, Zitzewitz was president of the "Reich Association for Breeding and Testing of German Warmbloods". After fleeing to the West, von Weedern's heir, Eberhard von Zitzewitz, lived in Altenmedingen in the Lüneburg Heath until his death . Some of the old, valuable Weederner mare lines are still bred by Andrea and Volker-Alexander von Zitzewitz in the East Holstein Stud Katarinental.

Today the Weedern Stud has gained new importance. In addition to horse breeding, Hanoverian and Trakehner, plant cultivation and an equestrian tourism offer are operated. With the purchase of the stud by Jelena Baturina , wife of the former mayor of Moscow , Yuri Luschkow , who was overthrown in affairs , the buildings were renovated on behalf of the new owner. In addition, she planned to convert the old manor house into a top hotel. This project did not come to fruition because the events surrounding her husband Lushkov subsequently also affected this project.
