history

The Jewish community in Niederbronn-les-Bains came into being in the 18th century. There was already an older synagogue built in the 1833. Since the Jewish community had reached its numerical peak in the middle of the 19th century with over 300 members and the old synagogue had become too small, a new synagogue was built, which was inaugurated on September 22, 1869.

The synagogue, built in the neo-Moorish style, was ravaged and plundered by the German occupiers during the Second World War . After 1945 it was used again as a synagogue and finally sold to the Catholic parish in 1989. This converted the building into a community center.
