Corporate development
At the beginning of the 1950s, the development of aptitude diagnostics took off rapidly. In 1954, the first examination center of the TÜV Munich was founded by Gerhard Munsch (at that time still "Psychological-Medical Examination Center" - PMU), at around the same time the medical-psychological institutes at TÜV Stuttgart and Mannheim ( TÜV Baden ) followed. Many war invalids had to be tested for their "fitness to drive" after the war. With increasing mobility in the 1960s, new challenges arose. A key task area was the assessment of novice drivers with suspicious tests. Around 1985 the medical-psychological institute of TÜV Bayern consisted of eight locations (Munich, Augsburg, Nuremberg, Regensburg, Würzburg, Landshut, Bayreuth and Passau).
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, TÜV Bayern also became active in the Free State of Saxony and opened five inspection centers there (Leipzig, Dresden, Chemnitz, Zwickau and Bautzen), from 1992 under the name TÜV Bayern-Sachsen. In 1994 the medical-psychological institute of TÜV Saarland was integrated.
In 1997, TÜV Bayern-Sachsen merged with TÜV SüdWest to form TÜV Süddeutschland. A new company name was chosen for the Medical-Psychological Institute (TÜV MPI GmbH). The company now consisted of the regions of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Saxony and Saarland. In 2005 the name was changed to "TÜV SÜD Life Service". This took over from "TÜV SÜD Industrie Service" ", formerly" TÜV Süd Bau und Betrieb ", the area of occupational safety and occupational medicine.
The occupational safety and medicine division was spun off into an independent GmbH in April 2014. This will be taken over as ias ias health & safety GmbH by ias Aktiengesellschaft as a strategic partner of TÜV SÜD AG.
Divisions
TÜV SÜD Life Service GmbH operates in the area of private customers, but does not offer personal advice. In order to guarantee their neutrality, the areas of activity "Consulting" and "Courses" were handed over to TÜV SÜD Pluspunkt GmbH at the beginning of 2009 in anticipation of the separation between diagnostics and consulting / training required by law.
Assessment of fitness to drive (MPU)
The assessment of fitness to drive is an important area of responsibility of TÜV SÜD Life Service GmbH. Traffic physicians and traffic psychologists work together as a team to prepare expert reports.
The remuneration takes place within the framework of a state-regulated fee schedule (fee regulation for measures in road traffic). The addressee of the report is the customer (client). He bears the costs of the expert opinion and decides on the transfer.
TÜV SÜD Life Service GmbH is bound by confidentiality. It provides information about the course of the investigation and the MPU's criteria as part of free information evenings. MPU info events should be attended as early as possible in the blocking period in order to make good use of the time when the driver's license is blocked. In individual cases, the embargo can also be shortened by the competent judge.
