Bomb mood is a television film from the crime series Tatort by ARD and ORF . The report produced by WDR was broadcast for the first time on October 12, 1997 and is the 372nd crime scene episode and the second case of the investigators Ballauf and Schenk .

action

The teacher Hans Ziemann is expected by a camera team at the end of the lesson in front of the school building. The moment he steps through the door, a bomb detonates in a trash can next to him and the teacher is killed.

The inspectors Ballauf and Schenk are supposed to take over the case and learn from the school director that Ziemann has been reported by the student Kathrin Stein for rape and sexual harassment, but has just been acquitted. That's why the reporters were on the lookout. While Ballauf tries to notify the victim's wife, Schenk goes in search of the journalists in order to possibly obtain clues about the perpetrator from the footage.

Ballauf asks Kathrin Stein and finds out that she grew up in very difficult circumstances. Her unemployed and violent father has rejected her since she defended his whims. Her mother is busy with the four other children and has little influence on her rebellious daughter. Kathrin is rarely at home and out with her boyfriend Hubert Kamphofen. At the youth welfare office, the family is already under observation and Kathrin is known as a notorious liar. However, the appraiser denies her any criminal energy that would explain an attempt on her teacher. Ballauf is certain that Ziemann was rightly acquitted and that Kathrin had accused her teacher of offended vanity and revenge. When the investigators learn that a large amount of saltpeter has disappeared in the school and that the student Hubert Kamphofen is not only Kathrin's friend, but also talented enough to build a bomb, Ballauf and Schenk concentrate on him. But when they want to question him, they find him hanged in his room. In a suicide note, he states that out of love for Kathrin he wanted to give her tormentor a lesson that he could not assume would end so dramatically.

Ballauf is unsure whether the boy is to blame for the accident alone. When Edith Ziemann, the victim's wife, was interviewed, contradictions emerged and the sensation-addicted reporter would have been interested in producing spectacular images. There were also two detonators on the explosive device, one of which was an expensive remote detonator and obviously did not come from a student.

First, however, Ballauf first brings Kathrin to the Kamphofen's house to make her aware of the extent of their lies. But she is silent and tries to kill herself at the next opportunity. Fortunately, she survived the jump into the Rhine.

When looking for the counterpart to the remote detonator, Paul Grimme and his private film studio came more and more into focus. Ballauf can clearly prove that the reporter was fraudulent in his film recordings, which he made for sensational reasons. Almost all of his reports were fake and possibly he wanted to bring additional explosiveness to his reports with the detonation. In addition, it turns out that Helga Grimme is not only a teacher and was a colleague of Ziemann, but that she also had an affair with him. Ballauf learns from Kathrin that she told Grimme about the bomb because she was in regular contact with him and also worked on his faked videos in front of the camera. Paul Grimme was arrested.

criticism

TV Spielfilm showed the thumbs up and said: “The newly formed investigator duo is gradually getting together and amused with their cockfights. In addition, there is a coherent story that was inspired by the scandal surrounding the 'film forger' Michael Born, which was revealed in 1996. ”Conclusion:“ Bold and exciting: a 'bombastic' crime thriller ”.

On the website How was the crime scene? Lars-Christian Daniels comes to the conclusion: “In the new Cologne crime scene, the action is not neglected. Also at the second ball run and gift case, the later Tatort regular guest Kaspar Heidelbach (Summ, hum, hum) sits on the director's chair and stages an entertaining crime thriller, the story of which in the end seems a little overloaded, for the relationship between the two inspectors and the The further development of the characters is of fundamental importance.
