geography

The Teutermühle and pump art was located on the Wurm, on Schweilbacher Strasse, in the city of Würselen. The mill building was at a height of approx. 135 m above sea level . The Adams mill was located above, the Pumper mills below .

Waters

The worm supplied numerous mills with water over a river length of 53 km. The source of the worm is located south of Aachen at 265 m above sea level, the confluence with the Rur is in the town of Kempen in the city of Heinsberg at 32 m above sea level. The water association Eifel-Rur (WVER) is responsible for the care and maintenance of the water body with a catchment area of 355.518 km 2 .

history

The mills were first mentioned in 1569. The grinding mill belonged to the Lords of Bongart in the Heiydener Ländchen and was named Teutermühle because it was probably built on a hairpin bend in the Wurm. The history of the mill was varied and yet very significant.

In Aachen area which became deposits of coal as a result of soil erosion evident and could be easily broken down to the slope sides. In 1684/85 the city of Aachen an der Teut set up a coal mine and took over the mill at the same time. The coal flotch reached deeper and deeper so that the water level of the worm was undershot. The pit water no longer had a natural flow. One was forced to raise the water to the bottom of the valley in order to let it flow naturally.

This happened in different ways. For a long time managed water servants with leather buckets , the water from hand to hand up. The next stage of development were hand pumps before treadmills the Tretkunst and Pferdegöpel the Art Ross were used. In the 16th century the pump was driven by the water wheel of the mill , the water or pump art . In 1685, the Aachen mine owners had the Teutermühle converted into such a water and pump art , which also meant the closure of the grinding mill.

In mining, art was understood to mean any type of machine that did the work for people and made it easier. So there was the art of pumping for dewatering in the pits . These were pumps that were driven by water power and moved over a more or less long field linkage . This art was now used at the Teutermühle. It was one of the first of its kind in the Aachen district. Teuter art performed its service until around 1800. In 1808 the mill went under with its dilapidated remains.
