Hurts are a British synthpop - band from Manchester . It consists of Theo Hutchcraft (born August 30, 1986 in Richmond, North Yorkshire ) and Adam Anderson (born May 14, 1984 in Manchester), both of whom were previously members of the bands Daggers and Bureau .
Career
In July 2009, Hurt's Band of the Day was on the website of the British daily The Guardian . They also achieved fourth place in the prestigious BBC Sound of 2010 vote.
2010–2011: Happiness
In early 2010 they released their first single and played their first concerts . The Hurts had their world's first live appearance at StyleNite on January 22nd, 2010 in Berlin's Friedrichstadtpalast .
Her debut album Happiness was released on August 27, 2010 in Germany. Hutchcraft and Anderson are based on the sound of the 1980s and their musical role models Pet Shop Boys , Depeche Mode , Tears for Fears or Frankie Goes to Hollywood . The 1980s and the defining sound of this decade ( synthesizers , drum computers , machine beats , etc.) are the most important reference point for the music of Hurts.
In German-speaking countries the band celebrated great success with the titles Wonderful Life and Stay . The first track in particular was able to stay in the charts for a long time, including 13 weeks in the German top 10, of which it spent three weeks at number 2. Stay was used in the German film Kokowääh , in which Til Schweiger played a part.
2012–2013: Exile
In early 2012 they started working on their new album. The first time attention was drawn to the new record, the title The Road , which was used in a two-minute promo video for the album. It has been available on iTunes since mid-December 2012. Another title, Sandman , has been made available for download from the official website for some time. Around the same time, the album cover and title were announced.
Miracle was first released as a pre-release single in some countries on January 11, 2013. In Germany, the Robots Don't Sleep Remix was released in February 2013 before the actual release . The single was released on the German market as a maxi CD on March 22, 2013.
On March 8, 2013 the album Exile was released , from which the songs Blind and Somebody to Die For were released in the following months . All three songs reached the German charts. The B-side of Somebody to Die For , the song Without You , which is a cover of the song of the same name by Selig , landed in the hit lists.
The song Under Control was created in collaboration with house producers Calvin Harris and Alesso . It is less based on Hurts' music style than on the typical Progressive House style of the two DJs. The music video celebrated its premiere at the beginning of November 2013. While the single was released in Switzerland on October 7, 2013, it wasn't released in Germany until November 15, 2013.
2015: Surrender
The third studio album, Surrender , was released on October 9, 2015. The song Some Kind of Heaven was released as the first pre-release single in Great Britain on May 28, 2015 . On July 16, Rolling Stone released the second song and on August 13, Lights released the third song.

Trivia

In November 2010, a room furnished according to your ideas was named “Hurts Chamber” in the Berlin hotel “The Weinmeister”. Hurts contributed a remix for the single Haifisch of the NDH band Rammstein , but also for the band The Heartbreaks for the single Jealous, Don't You Know , for the album Falco 3 (25th Anniversary Edition) by Falco the song Jeanny and for Lady Gaga's single Judas . They also produced a remix of Mylène Farmers Lonely Lisa in 2011 . In February 2012 they made a remix of the song Song from the Forgotten by the band Rosenstolz .
