Theodor Maßler
Theodor Maßler (also: Theodor Massler ; * July 1, 1844 in Wangen im Allgäu ; † April 13, 1910 in Hanover ) was a German sculptor .
Life
Theodor Maßler settled in the royal seat of the Kingdom of Hanover around 1865 and temporarily ran his own studio in Hanover . in the - at that time - Friesenstrasse 6 in Hanover, a studio in the Hagenstrasse 67 was also known.
In the proclamation of the German Empire Theodor Massler was a member of the number on Nov. 2, 1871 957 in the Johannis - Masonic Lodge Zum Schwarzen Baer added.
An advertisement by Maßler in 1882 in the magazine Hannoversches Wochen-Blatt for trade and commerce illustrates the further development of handicraft sculpture from traditional materials that took place in the 19th century:
"Stucco. Newest material for interior decoration. Advantages over gypsum stucco are: more significant hardness; very low weight and therefore more permanent attachment; immediate drying for painting; Easier to ship and cheaper [...] The stucco in Hanover is processed by me alone and I ask the honored architects, master masons and builders to convince themselves of this latest material in my studio. "
In 1895 Maßler became a member of the Hanoverian artists' association Bauhütte zum white sheet . In order to express his solidarity with the architect Conrad Wilhelm Hase and his conception of art, Maßler took part with his own works in the exhibition with drawings and exhibits held for Hase's 80th birthday in the Künstlerhaus Hannover .

In addition to altars, altar utensils, pulpits, chandeliers, baptismal fonts and architectural sculptures, Theodor Maßler also created wood, stone, metal and plaster works for churches by Conrad Wilhelm Hase and his students, including

- 1872 in Hanover for the city cemetery Engesohde : Tomb of the actor Karl August Devrient (1797-1872), while the portrait relief in marble by Heinrich Friedrich Brehmer comes
- 1875–1876 in Wietzendorf , for the new St. Jacobi church designed by Conrad Wilhelm Hase : altar and pulpit
- 1876–1879 in Gelnhausen , during the restoration of the Marienkirche according to the design by Carl Schäfer and the execution by Heinrich von Schmidt : completion of chipped parts on the main portal by tailors and the production of plaster casts
- 1878 in Hanover for the arts and crafts exhibition there : Execution of the stucco work for the model kitchen designed by Christoph Hehl
- 1878–1880 in Tostedt : Altar by Maßler for the new St. Johannis Baptist church designed by Conrad Wilhelm Hase
- 1881 for Hanover, Marktplatz: Maßler created the models of ornamentation for the market fountain designed by Conrad Wilhelm Hase , the figures of which were designed by Hermann Schaper , executed by Wilhelm Engelhard and cast in bronze by the company H. Gladenbeck & Sohn
