The 13th stage of the Tour de France 2008 on July 18th was 182 kilometers long and ran from Narbonne to Nîmes . There were two sprint classifications and three mountain classifications in the 4th category on the program.
Shortly after the start, Niki Terpstra and Florent Brard attacked and were able to pull away. The two achieved a maximum advantage of 9:55 minutes. Brard was able to secure all three mountain classifications, the last point was secured twice by Sebastian Lang and once by Bernhard Kohl . The two sprint classifications, which were only carried out after the mountain classifications, were each secured by Terpstra. Juan Antonio Flecha attacked from the field before the first sprint classification and secured the last two points, at the second sprint classification he attacked together with Stéphane Augé , who was able to secure the points. However, Augé continued the attack to get to the top duo. At the last sprint classification, Terpstra attacked his rider and was able to pull away from him. Augé finally caught up with his teammate Brard, but both were swallowed by the field shortly afterwards. That finally happened to Terpstra 10 km before the finish. Now Stef Clement attacked , but was swallowed up again by the field. Sylvain Chavanel denied the next attack, but was caught again 3 km from the finish line. The goal in Nîmes was reached on a 1,100 meter long and 7.5 meter wide home straight. There Mark Cavendish was able to secure his fourth stage win. Behind them were Robbie McEwen and Romain Feillu . There were no changes in the overall ranking.
