history
Not far from the small village of Towarkowo, located on the right bank of the Ugra and mentioned for the first time at the beginning of the 16th century, a settlement for employees was built on the other bank of the river in connection with the beginning of the mining of limestone deposits . The place name is possibly derived from that of the Moscow boyar Towarkov, who is mentioned in connection with standing at Ugra in 1480. In 1964 the place received urban-type settlement status. In the 1980s in particular, the prefabricated housing estate was also expanded for employees at the industrial sites along the railway line between Kaluga and Kondrowo.
