Beloussowo ( Russian Белоу́сово ) is a small town in the Kaluga Oblast ( Russia ) with 8,412 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located about 70 km north-northeast of the Oblast capital Kaluga on the Dyrochnaja, a left tributary of the Oka tributary Protwa .

Belousovo belongs to the Zhukov Rajon and is eight kilometers to the northwest from its administrative center Zhukov . Only four kilometers west of Belousovo is the city center of the large city Obninsk , which forms its own urban district.

history

The former village of Belousovo has developed since the 1950s in connection with the rapid growth of nearby Obninsk, where the world's first commercially used nuclear power plant went into operation in 1954 . Various utilities were established in Belousovo. In 1962, the place received the status of an urban-type settlement and on December 28, 2004 finally the city rights.

Economy and Infrastructure

There are companies in the food and textile industries in Belousovo. Not far from the city, natural gas pipelines from and towards Moscow , Brjansk and Jelets meet ; there is a compressor station and a regional operating facility of the operator Mostransgas . Beloussowo is also a residential suburb for the nearby city of Obninsk.

The nearest railway station is also in Obninsk on the Moscow - Bryansk - Kiev route . The A101 highway , which connects Moscow with the border with Belarus west of Roslavl , runs through Belousovo . A little southwest of Belousovo, the A101 crosses the M3 trunk road , which connects Moscow with the Ukrainian border in the direction of Kiev. In belousovo the Oblaststraße branches off the left bank of the Protva about Zhukov, Kremyonki and already in the neighboring Moscow Oblast location Protvino after Serpukhov follows.
