concept

The show concept comes from the Netherlands, where it was broadcast for the first time a year earlier under the title De beste zangers van Nederland . Since then, it has also been used for shows in other Northern European countries and in 2014 for Sing mein Song - Das Tauschkonzert in Germany.

The idea of the show is for seven well-known local musicians from different genres to meet. Each of the first seven programs of each season is dedicated to a musician and the other six musicians choose one of his songs and reinterpret it. In the eighth episode, songs by each musician are sung again, mostly as a duet. In 2016 the duets were abolished, instead the episode was dedicated to a deceased musician and his songs were interpreted by the participants. Since 2012 there has been a ninth episode with another meeting of the participants and a review of the time spent together.

After the success of the first season in late autumn 2010, the broadcast continued. Since then, seven other musicians have met each year in Burgsvik in the south of Gotland in the summer to record the songs. The episodes are broadcast from October to December of the same year on a weekly basis. After each broadcast, the cover versions are published and made available for sale or streaming, which means the success of the show is also reflected in the Swedish charts .

At the beginning of 2012, the show idea was implemented in Norway under the title Hver gang vi møtes . In the autumn of the same year, the Vain elämää show with seven Finnish musicians was broadcast in Finland . In 2014 Sing mein Song - Das Tauschkonzert was launched in Germany .

Season highlights

The first season of the Swedish edition reached an average of 1.5 million viewers. The musical breakthrough of the show came in the third episode, when the dance-pop singer September the song Mikrofonkåt sang, the more than ten years earlier, a smaller success of the rapper Petter had been. Their version debuted at number 1 on the Swedish charts and stayed there for eleven weeks. In addition, Petter himself and Plura, singer of the rock band Eldkvarn, were particularly successful in the charts. For the second season in the following year, even more prominent musicians could be won. The audience numbers rose to 1.9 million and the singer Laleh and the rapper Timbuktu were successful in the charts . The third season even exceeded the 2 million mark once. The star was the pop singer Darin , who put five songs in the charts, including En apa som liknar dig - originally by Olle Ljungström - at number 1. Miss Li , Magnus Uggla and Maja Ivarsson from The Sounds were also successful. From this season on there was an additional ninth meeting of the musicians, although the audience interest always lagged well behind the main episodes.

In the fourth season, Agnes Carlsson stood out with four chart successes , including the top 10 placement with En så'n karl in the original by Lill Lindfors after the opening broadcast. It was also the most popular with 1.9 million viewers, and overall TV ratings fell slightly compared to the two previous years. Titiyo and rapper Ken Ring also reached chart positions. Round 5 began on October 18, 2014 with a new audience record: The episode had almost 2.2 million viewers with songs by rock singer Ola Salo and his band The Ark . The cover versions were responsible for three of the season's seven chart positions. The best ranking was achieved by a song by Orup in the English version by Amanda Jenssen with the title When We Dig for Gold in the USA with position 4. Orup, Carola Häggkvist and Johan Karlsson were also successful in the charts. The episode with its songs was not very popular with 1.2 million viewers, but on average the quota remained constant compared to the previous year. Likewise in the following year, but with fewer fluctuations. With the breakthrough in music streaming and the expansion of the charts to 100 spots in 2015, chart success was even easier. This time 17 songs were successful, including all 6 songs from episode 1 with Niklas-Strömstedt songs. Miriam Bryant brought all of her 6 cover versions into the top 15 of the charts, with Allt jag behöver by Lisa Nilsson she reached number 2, but all other participants also had at least one chart position.

In the seventh year, the series was able to continue to build on a steady audience of an average of 1.6 million. Once again, all participants were also successful in the charts, and even one more song than last year made it into the charts. This was also due to the fact that instead of a series of duets in the eighth part, all participants sang songs by the late musician Ted Gärdestad . Jill Johnson reached second place in the Sverigetopplistan with the English version of Open Your Heart of a Tommy Nilsson song and got gold . Only Danny Saucedo was more successful with the song Super 8 by the pop singer Little Jinder . It also reached number 2 and even went platinum. Six of his seven posts hit the charts. And for the first time albums of each participant were published with their contributions, Saucedo's one reached number 1 and stayed in the album charts for almost a year and a half.

In 2017 there was a small slump, the audience numbers were only twice over 1.5 million, none of the 12 chart songs made it into the top 10. Sabina Ddumba reached number 19 with Vågorna , originally by Uno Svenningsson, and was with 5 chart entries most successful. Her season album reached number 10. This time episode 8 was dedicated to the danse band singer Sven-Erik Magnusson , who died earlier in the same year . In 2018, the quotas continued to decline and peaked below 1.7 million. Only 8 songs made it to the charts. Albin Lee Meldau, who only released his debut album shortly before the start of the ninth season, was most successful with four chart entries - his first four single chart positions. But his album did not get past number 24. The rapper Stor had the biggest single hit with Säga mig , which came in at number 4. The original by Linnea Henriksson was only 56th last year. This year the series of commemorations was dedicated to jazz singer Monica Zetterlund .
