Valle d'Aosta (wine)
Valle d'Aosta or Vallée d'Aoste is a wine-growing region in the Aosta Valley in north-western Italy . The wines produced here have had the status of a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1971 . The current version of the appellation was adopted on March 7, 2014.
Growing area
The appellation describes in great detail which grape varieties may be grown in which locations. Only the most important communities are listed here:
- on the orographic right side of the Dora Baltea river : Donnas , Hône , Arnad , Issogne , Champdepraz , Montjovet , Châtillon , Pontey , Chambave , Fénis , Saint-Marcel , Brissogne , Pollein , Charvensod , Gressan , Jovençan , Aymavilles , Villeneuve , Arvier and Advices .
- on the orographic left of the Dora Baltea river : Pont-Saint-Martin , Donnas , Perloz , Arnad , Bard , Verrès , Challand-Saint-Victor , Montjovet , Saint-Vincent , Châtillon , Saint-Denis , Verrayes , Chambave , Nus , Quart , Saint-Christophe , Aosta , Sarre , Saint-Pierre , Villeneuve , Saint-Nicolas , Arvier , Avise , La Salle and Morgex .

In 2017, 7511 hectoliters of DOC wine were produced.
The following wines are approved for production: Designation "Valle d'Aosta ..." or "Vallée d'Aoste ...", followed by the name of the respective approved grape variety : Müller Thurgau , Gamay , Pinot nero or Pinot noir, Pinot grigio or Pinot gris, Pinot bianco or Pinot blanc, Chardonnay , Mayolet , Petite Arvine , Merlot , Fumin , Syrah , Cornalin d'Aoste (Humagne Rouge, Cornalin), Rouge du Pays (Cornalin du Valais, Walliser Cornalin), Nebbiolo , Petit rouge , Prëmetta , Moscato bianco or Muscat petit grain, Traminer aromatico or Gewürztraminer , Gamaret , Vuillermin . The grape varieties mentioned must be at least 85% in the respective wine. A maximum of 15% other grape varieties of the corresponding color approved for cultivation in the Aosta Valley may be added.
