The Pechanga Arena San Diego is a multi-purpose arena on the Point Loma peninsula of the US city ​​of San Diego in the state of California . The arena can accommodate a maximum of 16,100 visitors. In the 1960s and 70s, the two basketball teams of the San Diego Rockets and the San Diego Clippers ( NBA ) were based in the hall. The 1971 NBA All-Star Game was played at the San Diego Sports Arena. The driving force behind the construction and financier of the 6.4 million US dollar arena was Robert "Bob" Breitbard (1919-2010). Formerly head coach at San Diego State University , he was a member of the Greater San Diego Sports Council , owner of the ice hockey team for the San Diego Gulls, and from 1967 to 1972 he was the first owner of the San Diego Rockets (NBA), which is now based in Houston . His teams were among the first to use the San Diego International Sports Center . The hall was designed by Mark L. Faddis and built by the Trepte Construction Company. Four years later it was renamed the San Diego Sports Arena , which remained until 2004.
