Welkendorf is part of the municipality of the Lower Franconian town of Ebern in the Haßberge district .

geography

The hamlet is located in the eastern part of the district, eight kilometers west of Ebern, in a valley through which the Dorfgrundbach flows. A community road from Gemünd to Weißenbrunn runs through the village. At the edge of the forest, about one kilometer southeast of the village, is the Weißfichtensee with a leisure facility that has existed since 1974.

history

The place name probably goes back to a Slavic personal name and means "village of Velek". The place is said to have been mentioned as early as 1140.

A document was mentioned in 1147 when Hermann von Schaumberg handed over a manse in "Welekendorf" to the Banz monastery . Another mention followed in 1232 in the certificate of division of the Würzburg bishop Hermann , in which Ebern was separated from the parish Pfarrweisach and among other things "Welchendorff" came to the parish Ebern. In 1373 Eberhard Fuchs von Breitbach received a farm in "Welkendorf" and in 1625 the Lords of Rotenhan owned half a tithe in "Welckendorff". ,

Welkendorf was a rural community and was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian District Office Ebern in 1862 . The rural community consisted of three places, the village Welke village, the 1.0 km distant village Gemünd and 1.5 kilometers from desert Gemündermühle. The parish had 98 inhabitants in 1871, of whom 32 were Catholics and 66 Protestants, and 20 residential buildings. The 55 inhabitants of the village of Welkendorf belonged to the Catholic and Protestant parish in Jesserndorf , 2.0 kilometers away , where the two denominational schools were also located. In 1900 the place had 45 residents and 11 residential buildings. In 1925, 80 people, 20 of whom were Catholics, lived in 17 residential buildings in the 268.61 hectare community of Welkendorf. The place itself had 46 residents and 10 residential buildings.

In 1950 the village had 63 residents and 10 residential buildings. In 1961 Welkendorf had 35 residents and 9 residential buildings. In 1970 there were 35 residents and in 1987 29 residents and 8 residential buildings with 9 apartments.

White Spruce Lake

On July 1, 1972, as part of the regional reform, the Ebern district was dissolved and Welkendorf became part of the Haßberg district. On January 1, 1978, the municipality of Welkendorf with its districts, the hamlet of Gemünd and the desert Gemündermühle was incorporated into Ebern.
