Wolossowo ( Russian Во́лосово ) is a city in the northwestern Russian Leningrad Oblast . It has 12,161 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The city is located about 85 km southwest of the oblast capital Saint Petersburg .
Wolossowo is the administrative center of the raion of the same name .
history
Wolossowo was built as a country house settlement after the construction of the St. Petersburg – Tallinn railway in 1870.
In 1937 the place was given the status of an urban-type settlement and on April 14, 1999 the town charter was granted.

Culture and sights
The former country residence of the painter and writer Nikolai Rerich (Nicholas Roerich, 1874–1947) is located near Wolossowo .
In the village of Klopitsy in Wolossowo district stands the Peter and Paul Church ( церковь Петра и Павла / tskerkow Petra i Pawla). In the village of Torossowo the former country house of the baron and general Pyotr Wrangel has been preserved, in the village of Kaskowo the building of the old post office. In the village of Raskulitsy there is a former country house and the Church of the Transfiguration of Christ ( Преображенская церковь / Preobrazhenskaya zerkow).
From the 3rd to 1st millennium BC A number of burial mounds originated in the area.
Economy and Infrastructure
In Wolossowo there are companies in the wood and wood processing industries, building materials (limestone) and the food industry.
The city is located on the St. Petersburg – Tallinn railway line, opened in 1870 (route km 84).
The regional road R38 Gatchina –Opolje (near Kingissepp ) runs through Wolossowo .
