AJ Foyt Enterprises

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

AJ Foyt Enterprises is an IndyCar Series team owned by US motorsport legend AJ Foyt .

The team has existed since 1979, when the ChampCar series was founded. Today it is the only team that has competed in the Indy Racing League or the IndyCar series since 1996 . During this time they won the championship twice, in 1996 with Scott Sharp and in 1998 with Kenny Bräck . In the following years Foyt tried to place his moderately talented grandsons AJ Foyt IV and Larry Foyt as drivers in the series, which failed. Larry has been team manager since 2007, and AJ IV now drives for Vision Racing . Darren Manning drove for the team until the end of 2008 , and at the Indianapolis 500 2008 a second car was used for Jeff Simmons . For the 2009 season, Vitor Meira has been announced as the team's new driver.

Between 1973 and 2004, the team also repeatedly used vehicles in NASCAR . A complete season, however, as well as top 5 placements remained the exception, there were never race wins.
